Ce blog a pour but de rendre accessible les principaux résultats des recherches récentes sur l’histoire du monde. L’accent porte en priorité sur les zones pas ou peu couvertes dans les travaux de vulgarisation, c’est-à-dire les zones en marge des empires lettrés en Afrique, aux Amériques, en Asie, en Europe de l’Est et du Nord et dans le Pacifique. La démarche de ce blog est pluridisciplinaire, elle s’appuie sur les avancées de l’archéologie, de la génétique des animaux, des plantes et des populations, de la linguistique historique, de l’étude des textes en langues non occidentales etc. J’appelle l’ensemble de ces disciplines les sciences du passé humain, d’après la formulation d’un programme de recherche récent de l’université de Harvard, the Initiative for the Science of the Human Past.

The goal of this blog is to make the results of recent world history research more accessible for the general public. It will mostly deal with the regions that are usually not covered extensively in vulgarization works, that is regions at the margins of text producing states in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Eastern and Northern Europe and the Pacific. This blog’s approach is pluridisciplinary and rests on the advances of anthropology, archaeology, genetics of plants, animals and human populations, historical linguistics, the study of texts in non western languages etc. I call the reunion of these disciplines the sciences of the human past, following the name of Harvard University’s recent research program, the Initiative for the Science of the Human Past.
